Unity Labyrinth
As the stresses of daily life have intensified in the last century, the labyrinth has reemerged in contemporary culture as a tool to quiet the mind, relax the body, and refresh the spirit. However, the labyrinth is often confused with its relative, the maze. One way to remember the difference between them is by keeping in mind that a maze is designed to make you lose your way; a labyrinth is designed to help you find your way. Whereas a maze features many false starts and dead-ends, a labyrinth features a single path that winds its way to the center and back out again—just one path in and out. Because it is an archetypal symbol for the spiritual journey, the labyrinth lends itself for use as a prayer tool in any religious context: Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Wiccan, and so on.
Unity Quad Cities offers two labyrinths for public use: an indoor Chartres-pattern canvas labyrinth and an outdoor Classical-pattern grass labyrinth.
Indoor Chartres-pattern Labyrinth
Made of 12-pound duck canvas, this labyrinth is 36-feet in diameter. The labyrinth is available for rental by the day, week, or month. For rental prices and terms, please click here. To schedule a rental, please contact the church office at (309) 762-1066.
Outdoor Classical-pattern Labyrinth
Located in the south churchyard, the Unity labyrinth is a Classical, seven-circuit pattern made of grass pathways and brick path boundaries. The labyrinth is open from sunrise to sundown every day of the year. Although the labyrinth is not handicapped accessible, a finger labyrinth is available for use during church office hours.
